Colostrum is at least 3 times more effective than influenza vaccination

Prevention of influenza episodes with oral colostrum compared with vaccination in healthy and at-risk patients with cardiovascular disease: the epidemiological study in San Valentino, Pescara, Italy 04/1/2007.

The efficacy of 2 months of oral colostrum in the prevention of influenza episodes compared with influenza vaccination was evaluated. Groups include healthy individuals without prophylaxis and those receiving vaccination and colostrum. 

After 3 months of follow-up, the number of days with influenza was 3 times higher in patients without colostrum intake. The colostrum group had 13 episodes versus 14 in the colostrum + vaccination group, 41 in the no-prophylaxis group, and 57 in no-prophylaxis patients.

Part 2 of the study had a similar protocol with 65 high-risk cardiovascular patients, all of whom were on prophylaxis.

 The incidence of complications and hospital admissions was higher in the vaccination-only group than in the colostrum group. 

Conclusion: Colostrum, both in healthy individuals and in patients at high risk of cardiovascular disease, is at least 3 times more effective than vaccination in preventing influenza and is very cost-effective.
