Lactoferrin – the invaluable ingredient in Biozin
Lactoferrin is not a widely known ingredient, but its benefits to human health are well-studied and incredibly diverse. These include: protection against bacterial, viral and fungal infections; control of iron ion concentration in biological fluids; anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity; regulation of cell growth and differentiation; slowing down the growth of cancer tumors and metastases.
Lactoferrin belongs to the polyfunctional proteins of breast milk, whose protective properties are unique.
Initially, lactoferrin was considered only as a milk protein that binds iron with bacteriostatic properties, but so far much experimental data and evidence have been obtained showing that this protein also has many physiological properties.
Here are some of them. And how much we still don't know!
1. The main and best-studied function is the regulation of iron content in the body. Correct regulation of the concentration of iron ions in the body is vital, since iron is involved in many metabolic processes. However, excess iron is no less harmful than its deficiency and leads to activation of the development of microbes, destruction of cells under the action of free radicals.
Lactoferrin's role in nutrition is thought to be to "mask" the iron in milk. On the other hand, it appears as a factor limiting the available iron content for microorganisms.
2. The preferential localization of lactoferrin in different secretions indirectly indicates that the main function of this protein is the protection of mucous membranes from pathogens. However, it was later found that lactoferrin is effectively used to protect the body from enteric infections and has the ability to suppress a wide range of microbial agents, regardless of its ability to bind iron.
And the quality that Bioshield relies on in the Biosin range of products is the most studied mechanism of antibacterial action – the specific interaction of lactoferrin with the outer bacterial membrane, which kills bacterial cells. That is why Biozin products, thanks to lactoferrin, have an antiviral effect against a wide range of viruses.
